Treasure on Oak Island

Janet Paleo • January 21, 2019

I have been watching the History Channel and in particular, the Curse of Oak Island. If you have not seen the show, it is about two brothers, Rick and Marty Lagina. Rick read the story about the treasure on Oak Island as a kid. At that time, finding the treasure became a passion for Rick. Marty started off as not a big believer in treasure, but he believes in his brother. When the opportunity arose around Oak Island, Marty and Rick began following Rick’s dream and his passion.

What I fell in love with is the apparent love between the brothers. I come from a family where we were not a tight knit family, to say the least. And most of the people I know do not come from tight knit families. I thought those were things only found on TV shows. Yet in this show, the love between the two brothers is so visible. And that love extends to all the people who become part of the Oak Island family. The show is so much more than finding treasure. It is about uncovering history, finding the story and about supporting each other in the search of the mysteries of Oak Island.

In many ways, Prosumers is the same for me. Prosumers search for the treasure in people. Often it is well hidden and buried deep inside. Yet knowing the treasure is there, I keep searching for the treasure, when I am allowed. Some people don’t want to uncover their treasure within. That is their choice. I know it is there and in some small way, I hope at some time they chose to have the treasure within them uncovered. For those who allow me to search, I find the most exquisite sample of humanity. When those precious nuggets are uncovered, my extended family becomes larger.

I am grateful for the “Curse of Oak Island” as I see how families and life can be. I also love seeing people following their passion, for it is truly the best treasure in life. While I hope the Ligina brothers find the “treasure” they are looking for, I believe they have found all the treasure in the world between themselves and the people who have joined with the family. For while coins and jewels are nice, the best treasure is found within.
