A New Tool To Use

I don’t know about you, but this COVID mess is really affecting me. Back in December, I found myself becoming lethargic and my mood was considerably darker. Because of the work I have done, I know we have very powerful minds and I needed to come up with something which would alter what I was feeling. I started an intention for the day. Every morning (well at least most mornings) I create what mood I want to go through the day with. If I know I have a lot of work, I may create my intention as being focused. If I am aware of some anxious things like seeing a doctor, I may create my intention to be more light and freeing.
It may sound remarkable, but within two days, I noticed my mood was considerably lighter and I had more energy. I started sharing my intention with the Prosumer staff. This help keep me accountable and gave them an opportunity to create their intention for the day.
Then I started sharing with folks that I text regularly. And they started texting me their intention for the day. One of my friends that I usually talk to 3 or 4 times a week had not responded for a while about her intention for the day. During one of our calls remarked about her not being able to find a good intention for a few days. She said, “I thought of just get up and stay up, but that’s not a good intention!”
      I responded, “Oh really?”
Then she realized it was the perfect intention. I like creating visions in what I choose, but really action ladened intentions are perfect!! I created a saying several years ago, “There is hope in action!” If you want hope, you must be in action. The more you are in action, the more hope you will have. If you answer your phone, you may get to talk to someone really great. If you go outside and get the mail, there are all kinds of things that could happen. Or at the very least, you get fresh air which helps you to heal.
In a couple of days, her intention was to “Let go! Walk on!” Again, very action oriented. In a previous article I talked about Joan Baez’s quote “Action is the antidote to despair!” This corresponds so nicely with my quote, and I think that people who have lived through a lot of despair and hopelessness, like myself and Joan, understand the importance of taking some kind of action. In creating an intention for the day, we are taking an action and declaring how we are going to be as that day unfolds. Get up, Stay up doesn’t mean you are going to run a marathon or get all the work done that you need to do. It simply means you are going to be awake for the day. And after being awake, you too may determine that there is more you would like to do. Depends on how much hope we are willing to generate or, looking at from Joan’s point of view, how much despair are we willing to let go of.
Also. the nice thing about intentions, is you can borrow someone else’s. So I want to share with you a few of my favorites.
My intention for the day is to be as a fluffy white cloud in a blue sky!
My intention today is to be thoughtful and forgiving.
Today my intention is be a sparkle in life
Today my intention is to acknowledge in all things I encounter, there is a blessing, a lesson, or a delight.
Today my intention is to dance gaily with life like no one is watching!
My intention is to be grateful for the opportunity to figure things out.
My intention for the day is to take the cup of kindness of the New Year and spread it generously.
My intention for today is to live boldly!
My intention for the day is to go with my heart.
I hope these few intentions of mine, spur you to create your own. Get others involved to help you keep you accountable. I believe if you create an intention and say it out loud, you begin to train your brain as to what is important for you. Even if you think you forget, your amigdala (Your Flight or Fight response) has heard you and takes you seriously about what is important to remember. Would you rather your head remember “I’m stupid” or “Today I am forgiving of all”?
Then keep track. Notice if in a few days, you seem lighter, happier, and maybe even more hopeful. I know it has worked for me and my friends. I am sure it will work for you as well.
So now the question is, What is your intention?
