STOP FORCED TREATMENT
Prosumers International has been advocating against forced treatment since the late 90's. We do not believe in having people's rights being curtailed as being good treatment. This is also called Assisted Outpatient Treatment or AOT and there are a few of other acronyms out there, but it is all the same thing. People being forced to take medication when they don't want to. TO BE CLEAR - We are not against medication, we are against people being FORCED to take medications they don't want for whatever reason they don't want to take it.
This page will be updated more as we work on getting something together to fight AOT. The Treatment Advocacy Center has been the leading force in this area. In Texas, they have created a book about how to use AOT more in Texas. They have gone though all the Texas laws and looked to see how to increase usage of AOT. I understand they are doing this for other states as well. I see what I think is a glimpse of possible proposed language for our legislators as our legislative session starts in January 2023.
The Treatment Advocacy Center is hosting the AOT Conference. For the moment, we are asking everyone who wants to protest, to register and come to the conference in San Antonio. The conference is free although they tell you they will charge you if you don't show up. I was not asked for a card. We are fleshing out other details. My hope is that we can attend the sessions and stand up and ask about civil rights. I also hope we can be handing out a paper which is almost completed speaking to why AOT is not good for people. We do have permission to carry signs outside the hotel and we do not need a permit for that. Keep checking back for further details.
